Abstract:In November 2017，great political changes occurred in Southern African country Zimbabwe resulting in a peaceful transition of power. The 93-year-old president Robert Mugabe resigned and the former vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa succeeded as president of Zimbabwe. The political changes，marking the end of 37 years “Mugabe Era”and the beginning of a new era，have direct causes，deep causes and fundamental causes. President Mnangagwa carried out a series of reform and opening-up policies in politics，economy and diplomacy，aiming at rebuilding the national image，improving the investment environment，developing economy and enhancing people's livelihood. These measures have achieved initial success and won wide support for the new government of Mnangagwa. There is strong possibility that the incumbent president Mnangagwa will win the general election of 2018. Meanwhile，issues such as the union of the opposition parties，political violence，and the responses of the western countries，are also the focus of attention.
