Abstract:Economic sanctions are increasingly becoming an important means for some international organizations and countries, especially major powers,to achieve specific goals in the world today. In order to reflect the status of the development of international economic sanctions, the report analyzes the economic sanctions used by the international community against Iran and Russia. The Iranian nuclear issue triggered more than eight years of economic blockade imposed on Iraq, which resulting in the most serious crisis of the Iranian economy since the 1980s. The Ukraine crisis caused several rounds of economic sanctions imposed by the Western countries on Russia,so that the Russian economy is hovering at the brink of recession. Because of a series of Russian anti-sanctions,the economic confrontation between the West and Russia escalated. To a certain extent,it reflects that international economic sanctions are in fact a contest of the economic strength of the sender and the receiver. In terms of the effect of economic sanctions, the receiver suffers a lot from sanctions, but the sender is still difficult to achieve its targets. As for the prospects of the two cases,it is of great difficulty to achieve a comprehensive settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue only by economic sanctions on the short-term,while sanctions and anti-sanctions between the Western countries and Russia will continue in the foreseeable future.
