Abstract:There are two different trends in American politics in 2018. On the one hand，the confrontation between the Democrat and the Republican became more intensified；On the other hand，growing dissatisfaction with reality has prompted society to seek change beyond reflection. The trump administration has stuck to its governing style and used the support of its core voters to force the GOP to “trumpize”，meanwhile the Democrat’s interaction with colored people and female is closer. Both parties present a feature of identity politics，and wage more fierce struggles on issues such as the nomination of grand justices，government budget，immigration and citizenship，and Russia investigation. Moreover，the new media’s star-making campaign also promotes broader political participation with topic-orientation. In the midterm elections of 2018，there are wins and losses in both parties，but the Democrats are doing better than they seem. With more female and more candidates from a wider range of backgrounds entering the government，the confrontation between the two parties will become more fierce，which will affect their respective party building. It is expected that the two parties will focus on the competition of substantive issues in 2019，and deploy ahead of time for the upcoming general elections.
