Abstract:The Mediterranean is located at the intersection of Europe,Asia and Africa.Under the background of the “One Belt and One Road” initiative,the Mediterranean region will play a key strategic role.This paper systematically reviews the development of economies in the Mediterranean region,the trade situation between the Mediterranean and the Far East,the development of 16 hinterland economies,the port of Piraeus,the hinterland economic gateway and its cooperation with China,and the recent development trends of the Mediterranean region,etc.,to conduct a comprehensive observation of the latest developments in the Mediterranean under the “One Belt and One Road” initiative.On this basis,suggestions were made for Chinese enterprises to invest in the Mediterranean region.This paper proposes that Chinese enterprises investing in the Mediterranean should find a “strategic node city” and use the time advantage of Piraeus to improve transport efficiency,and at the same time point out that investing in the infrastructure of the Mediterranean port's transport capacity is an alternative way to grasp the first-mover advantage.
