Abstract:As a key neighbor，close ally and trade partner of the US，Canada plays an important role in the US rebalancing strategy in Asia Pacific. Although Canada did not make an official response to the rebalancing strategy launched by the Obama administration，the strategy actually caused hot debate among top officials in Canada. Generally，Canada would diplomatically show its support and acquiescence of the US strategy if Canada-America special relations and Canada’s diplomatic traditions are concerned. Ottawa could be more active in the field of dispute resolving，humanitarian assistance，and non-traditional security governance. To what extent Canada may follow the US new Asian strategy will hinge on Canada’s calculation of its own national interest and the policy preference between Canada and the US. Meanwhile，Canada’s role in the rebalancing strategy will be limited considering its relationship with China in recent years. Particularly in the sensitive security issues，Canada has its own voices，and may not involve itself in China-US tangles. Ottawa will act just like a tight rope-walker and keep a prudent balance between Beijing and Washington to maximize its own interests.
