Abstract:The political situation of Uzbekistan has remained stable in 2012. The Uzbekistani government devoted itself to improve people's welfare, alleviate social contradictions, and the social conditions were generally good. Uzbekistan continued to strike at religious extremism, the security situation was stable, and the national economy progressed steadily with the emphases being developing the energy industries and building industrial parks/zones. In foreign diplomacy, Uzbekistan was having a rough time with the neighboring Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, its relationship with US continued to warm up, and was being neither friendly nor aloof with Russia, while its relations with China has entered a new historical phase marked by the building of a strategic partnership between the two countries. Uzbekistan acknowledges the attainments of SCO in a variety of areas, attaches considerable importance to economic cooperation, especially the attracting of foreign investment and the constructing of infrastructure, and understands the influence of China within SCO which has provided China and Uzbekistan with a good platform to develop friendly cooperation.
