机遇与挑战并存——评上海合作组织区域经济合作

Abstract:This thesis discusses the progress attained in the regional economic cooperation of SCO in 2012. Firstly, under the situation of global economic and commercial slowdown, a steady growth was registered in the trade across the region of SCO. Trade among the SCO member states has become a new impetus driving the growth of foreign trade of SCO member states who have become important trade partners with each other. Secondly, the regional investment has grown rapidly with remarkable effect, the scale of investment has markedly increased, investing means and investors became diversified, the areas absorbing investment continued to broaden, and projects of network construction and industrial park/zone construction were becoming new bright spots of investment. The process of trade and investment facilitation was progressing steadily. After that, both internal and external challenges and opportunities faced by SCO in its effort toward regional economic cooperation and development are examined. The thesis finally suggests that the future trend of the SCO regional economic cooperation and development lies in the deepening of the region's economic cooperation which is exactly the way for the member states to lift themselves out of the crisis, and they should vigorously push for the facilitation of free trade and investment within the region on the basis of multilateral trade rules, and in particular increase mutual investment to enhance the effect of regional economic cooperation, and eventually to benefit the people of the member states.
