Abstract:France’s development in 2022 is heavily impacted by the changing international landscape，with the European energy crisis triggered by the Russia-Ukraine conflict causing upward inflation，setbacks in economic growth，and frequent social protests. The forced introduction of the Macron government’s pension reform has sparked social protests，strikes and street violence，raising concerns about the stability in French society. However，the French government still has an ambitious development plan，hoping to revive France’s manufacturing sector through industrial policy，enhance scientific research and technological innovation through state intervention，and cultivate a stronger talent base through education reform. French diplomacy has also been active，and President Macron’s visits to Africa and China，despite all the commentary and criticism，have been a way of signalling France’s and Europe’s strategic autonomy.
