Abstract:With the popularization of Neo-Confucianism in the Song dynasty and the promotion of the status of proses in the Tang and the Song Dynasties, prose theory of Song Dynasty was actively accepted at the late of the Edo period and Meiji period. During these periods, literary reviews of Japan praised proses in Song Dynasty, absorbed the literary ideas of the Song Dynasty, and even directly quoted the treatises of the essayists of the Song Dynasty. Japanese scholars also reviewed, supplemented and imitated the selected works of ancient proses compiled by the Song Dynasty, mainly Wen Zhang Gui Fan(文章轨范). And draw lessons from Song people’s way of reading and editing ancient proses as well as circle marks and critical terms. The acceptance of Song dynasty textology in the late of the Edo period and Meiji period era was a reaction to the mid-Edo period’s ancient rhetoric school, which emphasized rhetoric over rational essays, and a return to the basic attribute of ancient literature, which was to clarify the idea about using literature to articulate tao(道). In addition, which the official decrees and the historical background of the great reform was form a dynamic force. In this process,Japanese scholars also abandoned the disadvantages of the Song Dynasty’s prose theory, and accepted the style of the Song Dynasty’s proses, which were smooth and easy to write, and the spirit of the prose which was related to the indoctrination.
