Abstract:Since the end of the 20th century，driven by the flourishing of global history studies，historians have gradually shifted their attention from the land to the sea and produced new and innovative works in oceanic history. These works not only follow the path pioneered by Fernand Braudel’s The Mediterranean and the Mediterranean World in the Age of Philip Ⅱ，challenging traditional conceptions of history，but at the same time attempt to transcend Braudel’s model and update the spatio-temporal dimension of historiography. Oceanic history has made valuable explorations in historical writing，highlighting the diversity and complexity of historical development in order to present a closer approximation to the real process of historical evolution. Today’s oceanic history，however，still leaves something to be desired. Although it aims to challenge Western cultural hegemony，the vast majority of important works have been written in English. Atlantic history，or the history after Columbus’ voyages，has also received special attention. Furthermore，oceanic history today still revolves around human activities on the sea，coast，and islands，and has not yet moved beyond the anthropocentric historical mindset.
