Abstract:One of the key features of modern thought is to reflect on itself as an object. The critique of modernity constitutes a unique tradition in the history of German spirituality. Focusing on the German critical tradition of modernity，this book review attempts to reconstruct the narrative of modernity in the style of German thought by restating the basic theses in the context of philosophy of life，phenomenology and political philosophy，from poetics and sociology to theology. These include the philosophical implications of life in Goethe’s creative imagination，the consequences and revelations of the “demystification” of the modern world，the crisis of European science and the advance of transcendental philosophy，the inner historical logic of Enlightenment dialectics，objective reason and the destruction of reason，the connection between modern philosophy of history and Christian eschatology，classical natural justice and modern natural rights The philosophy of money in the context of modern philosophy，postmodernity and the unfinished modern project.
