Abstract:As China becomes increasingly integrated with the world,it faces growing demand for the protection of its overseas interests. At present,China is making great efforts to implement “the Belt and Road” strategy, which promises to open up huge new spaces for the expansion of China’s overseas interests. That Chinese enterprises going global on a large-scale has already become a predictable fact. Different countries along “the Belt and Road” present major differences in terms of the level of development, business rules and legal systems,a fact which creates unprecedented opportunities as well as challenges and risks for Chinese enterprises prepared to seek overseas expansion. Relevant research indicates that Chinese enterprises face three major risks as they seek to go global:the geopolitical and economic risks as a result of the conflict of strategic interests, the risks inherent in the rules of business games as a result of such factors as the law, capital, interest rates, and the market, and the risks arising from the conflict of cultural differences due to different customs, habits and religious concepts. In response to these risks,Chinese enterprises can primarily resort to three specific communication strategies that may help avert such risks, namely,to develop international brands and build positive corporate images,to strengthen the corporate social responsibility and enhance their international and local identity, and to intensify international PR efforts designed to manage and maintain long-term relationship with relevant stake-holders.
