Abstract:The China-Myanmar Economic Corridor is an important link between the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor and the China-Indo-China Peninsula Corridor under the “One Belt and One Road” initiative, following the vision and practice of the two countries in promoting regional connectivity since ancient times. The strategic consensus of the leaders of the two countries and the comprehensive coordination of ministries and commissions have laid a sound policy foundation for the building of the Corridor. In recent years, the two countries have made progress in infrastructure connectivity and unimpeded trade. They have achieved a lot in commercial and financial cooperation, but still need to strengthen policy financial cooperation. The government and non-governmental organizations have taken an active part in cultural exchanges and basic livelihood improvement, and worked together to promote closer ties between the two peoples. However, the construction of the Corridor still faces multiple challenges, such as ethnic and religious conflicts in Myanmar and intensified competition among major powers. The COVID-19 epidemic has made it more difficult to promote cooperation. In the future,China and Myanmar need to strengthen the top-level design of the Corridor cooperation mechanism, ensure full coordination between the two sides, and form a complete mechanism from decision-making to implementation and supervision,so as to realize the common goal of jointly building a China-Myanmar community with a shared future.
