Abstract:Under Angela Merkel’s leadership since 2005，the German government has continued its basic policy towards Israel. Stronger political，economic，military and cultural ties between the two countries have been fostered. Bilateral relations have continued to develop and exhibited favorable trends. At present，Germany’s attitude towards the Holocaust and the Holocaust reparations，and the long-term defense as well as scientific cooperation between the two countries remain the cornerstones of this special relationship. However，given the particularity of the two countries’ own history，the sensitivity of mutual relations and the turbulence of the international political situation，the Germany-Israel relations in the Merkel era still face various challenges，among which the most important factors include the public opinion in Germany，German participation in the Palestinian issue and the U.S.role in the Middle East. Germany and Israel still hold different views on issues such as Israeli settlements，Iran’s nuclear program，and Israel’s annexation of the West Bank.
