Abstract:The existing studies on Japanese diplomacy in the postwar era mainly focuses on Japan-U.S.relations. However，it becomes more necessary in recent years to conduct studies on Japan’s relations with other Asian countries. Japanese diplomacy in Asia in the postwar era can be regarded as a shift from a pattern of “Japan and Asia” to that “Japan in Asia”. It contributes to the understanding of Japanese diplomacy in Asia in general if the concept of Asia from Japanese perspective and characteristics of Japanese diplomacy in different stages of development are examined. It has currently entered an era in which Asian diplomacy will have a huge impact not only on Japanese diplomacy but also on Japanese domestic politics.
