Abstract:The Trump Administration has maintained the U.S.retrenchment posture in the Middle East, which has exerted influences on U.S.Middle East policy options. In terms of Iranian policy, military actions against ISIS,and policies towards regional allies, the Trump administration has adopted some positive, aggressive, and even risky actions;however,as regards to the so-called “stabilization and reconstruction”,the Trump administration has at last chosen to retreat. Regardless of the advance or retreat, the strategic retrenchment of the United States in the Middle East is an important background or influencing factor for relevant decisions of the trump administration. The aggressive actions in the Trump administration’s Middle East policies have contributed a lot to rebuild the U.S.strategic credibility in the region, but these actions have also undermined U.S.moral credibility. The Trump administration’s retreating from the “stabilization and reconstruction” in Syria aims to free the U.S.troops from being involved in the complex internal conflicts in Syria, but due to the inconsistent positions showed by the Trump administration, the final retreating decision has done a lot harm to the U.S.decision-making credibility. It is helpful to further understand the current situation and trend of American Middle East policy by examining the advance and retreat of trump administration’s Middle East policy under the background of strategic retrenchment.
