Abstract:Since the 1950s，Franco-African relations have had a three-stage evolution：the period of the “Françafrique”，specifically during the first two decades after independence；followed by decolonization in the Cold War context in which democratic multiparty reform became a priority in France’s African policy；and today’s Africa which is entering an era of pluralistic partnership，where France is confronted with tough competition on the African continent from challenge of the United States and the emerging countries. Thus，France，on the one hand，continues to hold on firmly to its three strategic pillars：economic，political and military towards Africa；on the other，it revises from time to time its African policies and strategies in order to maintain and protect its own interests on the continent. An alternation between “changes” and “constants” thus constitutes the major characteristic of France’s foreign policy towards Africa.
