Abstract:France’s agriculture is very developed and highly efficient. It is one of the world’s major agricultural powers. The modernization of French agriculture benefits from the European Common Agricultural Policy. The French government has played an important role in fostering agricultural development. Not only has it tilted its policy toward agriculture，it has also encouraged the research and development in agriculture and established a mechanism of stabilizing grain prices. The French agricultural cooperative system has enabled French farmers with a small cultivated area to better respond to changes in the market；France has established a unique agricultural financing system；the Agricultural Credit Bank has even become France’s largest bank；France has established a specific system of agricultural insurance that protects farmers benefits from weather changes；the French government has taken active measures to hedge against the rural exodus brought about by “urbanization”. France’s rich experience in agricultural development and rural development can provide us with many inspirations. However，the new challenges faced by French agriculture in recent years have also reminded us of the new trends of future agricultural development in the world.
