Abstract:In 2017，the number of visitor to Macau realized recovery growth. Compared with 2016，the visitor structure did not show a huge change，however，some new characteristics can be observed. The visitor from the Great China Region was still in the dominant position，and visitors from Mainland China increased by 2.0% compared by 2016，however，visitors from Hong Kong and Taiwan decreased by 4.0% and 1.3% respectively. International visitors increased by 6.2% to a new record of more than 3.1 million，accounting for 9.8% of total visitor arrivals. The total overnight-stay visitors rose by 9.9% to more than 17.2 million，accounting for 52.9% of the total visitor arrivals with a year-on-year increase of 2.2 percentage points，breaking the record in terms of both the overall quantity，as well as the proportion of total visitors. In general，the visitor structure of Macau is still in an undesirable state. The percentage of international visitor is still relatively low，hovering around 10%. Among domestic visitors，visitors from Guangdong province are dominating ahead of other provinces. The average length of stay stood at 2.1 days for overnight-stay visitors and 1.2 days for all visitors. Under the background of developing Macau as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure，and implementation of “Macau Tourism Industry Development Master Plan”，it is still a long and arduous task to optimize the visitor structure and extend the length of visitors’ stay in Macau.
