Abstract:The great Confucianists in all previous dynasties proposed various methods and approaches of dissolving the contradiction between “rationality and desire” to exalt virtue and eliminate vice，respectively constructing three unique views of rationality and desire with typical meanings：the first one values rationality in a mild way above moderate desire；the second extremely advocates upholding rationality while annihilating desire；the third is an enlightening one by unifying rationality and desire，and forming China's fine tradition of emphasizing rationality and spiritual life. They have a permanent meaning in solving ecological environmental disasters resulting from too much greed and eagerness for quick success and instant benefits，and social conflicts by fierce interest competition，curbing bad habits of being insatiably avaricious，putting profit-making first，indulging in sensual pleasures and seeking private gain at public expense，and dissolving the clash of values between “heavenly principle and human desire”. To rationalityably understand and grasp the relationship of rationality and desire，reconstruct contemporary view of rationality and desire，we should critically inherit the rationalityable components from Confucian traditional view of rationality and desire，then transform and develop them creatively，thus realizing the transformation from valuing rationality above desire，or valuing desire above rationality to laying equal stress on both.
