Abstract:The definition of Community Volunteer Service （CVS） was divided into two types in this paper：“Community-Based” and “Community-Oriented”. Based on official data and survey data，this paper examines a number of community volunteers，the registration rate，the number of CVS organizations and their service fields. According to research，in 2016，35.24 million volunteers were involved in CVS activities in various fields，such as help for the elderly，community convenience services，help the disabled，environmental protection，cultural propaganda in communities，through 1.0476 million CVS organizations. In general，China's CVS presents four main characteristics in 2016：the multi-participation under the leadership of the CPC and local government to achieve resource sharing；the CVS contents are related to people's daily lives and the grassroots organizations are collaborating for innovation；the inheritance of traditional culture about community neighborhood are rebuilding the foundation of social trust；the increase in government purchase of social services results in the development of professional CVS.
