Abstract:From 2001 to 2016，the Innovation Competitiveness ranking of South Africa fell from the 3rd place to the 4th among BRICS countries. The next five years，however，will foresee its Comprehensive Innovation Index edging up. Currently，South Africa is harnessing a new round of technology and industrial revolution. On the one hand，it relies on new policies to stimulate science，technology and innovation to help it move faster on the industrial and modernization path. On the other，its intensified efforts on international science and technology cooperation is generating new driving force for its innovation. China and South Africa shared nearly 20 years of cooperation on science，technology and innovation，which delivered effective results in cooperation mechanism，cooperation in key areas，joint research funding，and joint organization of exhibitions and conventions，etc.. In particular，the two countries have produced demonstration projects in space technology and science and technology for people’s well-being.
