Abstract:China scored a rapid rise from 2001 to 2015 in the ranking of innovative competitiveness，the highest among the BRICS members. In the coming five years，China’s comprehensive innovation index is forecasted to achieve rapid growth. Over the past few years，China has seen a continuous rise in its R&D intensity，with greater support from the state finance and taxation. Capabilities of original innovation have been continuously improved with significant R&D achievements. Innovation resources are clustering around enterprises，giving rise to innovation in enterprises. Science，technology and innovation have refined the industrial structure and supported economic and social development. Regional innovation has witnessed new strides and remarkable progress in some areas. China is actively engaged with BRICS members in science and innovation，making efforts in mechanism building，thematic cooperation，S&T people-to-people exchanges，and joint research funding. There is huge potential for the bilateral cooperation between China and other BRICS members.
