Abstract:Silicon-based photon integrated circuit refers to various optical components made with silicon as the main material and adopting the mainstream manufacturing process of microelectronic device,which has functions such as emission,transmission and reception of light and can greatly enhance the miniaturization and integration of core devices and related optical path devices in optical communication and becomes an important way to break the bottleneck for development of electric interconnection. Silicon-based photon integrated circuit boasts a promising prospect and thus attracts attention from world’s well-known communication and network companies such as Intel,IBM,Oracle and Cisco,governments and research institutes of different countries. The companies are actively involved and jointly promote the rapid development of the field. Now it has realized silicon based integration with several photoelectric devices that are difficult to integrate such as laser device and modulator. In the future,silicon-based photon integrated circuit will continue to develop in the directions of a higher rate,a lower power consumption and a higher integration degree and its market share will increase rapidly;it will compete fiercely and even pose to overturn the existing mature technologies of indium phosphide and gallium arsenide.
