Abstract:The profound changes in domestic and international security situation require the innovation in national security concept，the widening of the strategic vision for national security，and the promotion of active strategic interaction between China and the rest of the world amid their increasingly closer connection，so as to accomplish national security in more open conditions. The overall outlook on national security plays an important guiding role for safeguarding national security. With rich connotations，this outlook takes realizing the “two centenary goals” as the basic mission，ensuring people’s security as the fundamental purpose，safeguarding national interests as the central task，and promoting international security as the foundation. This outlook stresses taking the path of national security with Chinese characteristics and improving the national security system. The proposition of the overall outlook on national security provides the basic guideline for planning for national security. To safeguard national security means to follow the requirement of this outlook，intensify the overall strategic arrangements，continuously improve the strategic capability of national security，actively create a favorable strategic environment，effectively protect national interests，and have overall consideration to realize lasting peace and stability in the nation. The proposition of this outlook in the new age is in itself a kind of strategic innovation. Its purpose is to follow the general trend in the world that is going through profound and complex changes，in order to achieve the goal of national security.
