Abstract:This paper aims to recognize characteristics of urbanization in China both spatially and timely. Characteristics of inequality were detected in our paper from three scales:whole country, three economic belts, and provincial scales. Gini coefficients of urbanization in the mentioned three scales were calculated to measure inequality of urbanization development in China. It was found that with the increase of urbanization these years in China, inequality of country-wide decreases year by year. However, inequality of three economic belts varies spatially. The inequality in the east part of China, whose development is relatively higher than others, was the lowest in the three parts. And the inequality of urbanization in the west part was the highest, while its economic development is lowest in three parts. When it turns to the provincial scale, the characteristics of inequality of urbanization seem much similar with three economic belts, that gradient change from east to west. However,An Hui and Gan Su provinces seem great difference with provinces in surrounding.Furthermore,in our paper, regression model was built to analyze implications of inequality of urbanization in provincial scale. And we found that population scale, structure of urban system, potential of labor, and variance between rural and urban were all crucial factors to inequality of urbanization. To be mentioned, the ratios of amounts of medium-sized cities in one province was especially significant in our model, which tell us that development of medium-sized cities may help reduce inequality of regional development.
