Abstract:Until recently，the sustained economic recovery in the U.S. did little to rectify the unbalanced labor-capital relations. The inequality in terms of race and ethnicity，wealth distribution and opportunity is still worsening. Meanwhile，the structure of the U.S. population is under transformation. The falling fertility rate，the aging of population，and the increasing of minorities combined is making the U.S. population more diverse. Owing to the interplay of economic recovery，population change and worsening inequality，the U.S. middle class who lacks the sense of security is shrinking. Therefore，the 2016 presidential election demonstrates two phenomena：the ideological polarization between the candidates of the two parties is widening while the antagonism between pro-establishment and anti-establishment power is sharpening.
