Abstract:In the March 2013 election，the center-left Labour party achieved a landslide victory，ending the Nationalist Party’s long-time monopoly on domestic politics. In order to fulfill its promises made in the election，the new government implemented a set of policies aimed at reducing tax to promote growth and raise people’s living standards. As Europe’s debt crisis calmed down and the economies of euro zone countries rebounded，Malta’s economy as well recovered slowly. But its budgetary deficit broke the line again，putting the long-term sustainability of its public debt at risk.
