Abstract:The world’s major armed conflicts from 2007 to 2008 have a slight decrease in number，compared with the previous year.The Middle East，South Asia and Northeast Africa host the majority of the armed conflicts.The war in Iraq，the war in Afghanistan，Somalia war，civil war in Sri Lanka，civil armed conflicts in Sudan，India，Pakistan，Thailand and Colombia，are catching the world’s attention.The conflict has been characterized by fragmentation of violence and decentralization of the armed groups，which in turn makes the conflicts more stubborn and hard to settle by the governments and international organizations.Although the high-profile Russian-Georgian conflict has had a significant impact on the international situation，it does not mean that the Russians are challenging the existing international structure.On the contrary，Russia will still maintain the posture of both confrontation and cooperation with the Western countries.
