Abstract:Ali al-Wardi is a famous historical sociologist in Iraq in the 20th century. On the basis of the sociological framework，his research content has experienced a shift from social to historical category，forming a unique historical and sociological thought and methodology. Al-Wardi’s historical and sociological thought focuses on exploring the historical laws of Iraq，forming a research path combining mechanism narration with time series narration，so as to take the study of main reasons for the failure of the construction of Iraqi nation-state as the core issues of the research. Al-Wardi’s thought not only reveals the reality，but also foresees the future. It also influences the intellectuals in contemporary Iraq and even the Islamic world. Al-Wardi represented the achievements of Arab sociology in the 20th century and promoted the development of Iraqi history. He combined the sociology and history and broke the barrier between them，echoed the trend of western historical sociology，won a place for Iraqi scholars in the development of the world’s historical sociology，and made contributions to breaking through the western discourse system.
