Abstract:In political development，local elections were held in Croatia in 2021. The results for the ruling Croatian Democratic Union were generally satisfactory，with the largest opposition party Social Democratic Party suffering a setback，while new political parties achieved breakthroughs. The president and the prime minister held divergent views on many issues. In regard to economy，growth was rapid in 2021，bringing about a recovery better than expectations. This was largely attributed to the financial assistance provided by the EU and other institutions and the revenue from the high tourist season in summer. In terms of foreign relations and security，Croatia made outstanding achievements in 2021. Croatia made the historic decision to buy 12 Rafale F3R fighter jets from France，joined the Visa Waiver Program of the United States and met all the necessary conditions for joining the Schengen zone，moving further in transatlantic cooperation and European integration. However，the violent expulsion of migrants and refugees by Croatian police sparked controversy and condemnation. In the social and cultural area，the results of the fourth population census were not optimistic，while good results were achieved in the Tokyo Olympic Games. In China-Croatia relations，political mutual trust between the two countries were strengthened and economic cooperation and trade flourished.
