华侨大学“境外生”概念的溯源与思考

Abstract:“Jingwai students” is a key word throughout the development history of Huaqiao University，and also the core concept in the field of Huaqiao higher education. In the 1990s，with the maturity of Huaqiao University’s moval eduction system of “two types of students” and its characteristic of “two types of students in one school system”，the term “Jingwai students” began to have substantial connotations. After 1997，the concept of “Jingwai students” quickly became familiar to all walks of life inside and outside the university and is still in use today. “Jingwai students” can be divided into broad and narrow senses. In the broad sense，all “non-domestic students” can be regarded as “Jingwai students”. In the narrow sense，it refers specifically to the collection of students from Hong Kong，Macao，Taiwan and overseas Chinese. Huaqiao University has long faced many contradictions caused by the cultivation of “Jingwai students”，which needs to be explored and resolved through further reform，innovation and academic research in the future.
