Abstract:After 40 years of rapid growth，Shenzhen is faced with the challenge of expanding new space for its sustainable development. Marine economy is one of the new fields of sustainable development for Shenzhen which has been recognized by both the central government and Shenzhen government. By building up new drivers of all-round sustainable development with marine economy as the mainstay，Shenzhen can not only capitalize on its excellent geographical location advantage in the offshore area，but can also combine its traditional advantages in high-tech innovation，finance and other fields，while coordinating the development of education，tourism and other sectors. In brief，it is a comprehensive and sustainable development mode capable of “raising strengths and making up for weaknesses”. While building on its advantages as it grows into a global ocean center，Shenzhen should also pursue spanning development of its marine economy，construct a marine science and technology innovation system，highlight the cultural characteristics of an ocean city，enhance its capacity for integrated marine management，actively participate in global ocean governance，and shoulder more responsibilities for the development of the South China Sea and the development of the regions around it. overall，Shenzhen，an innovative city，is open to new things. In addition to supporting policies，Shenzhen should further act on its “Special Zone spirit”，raise the awareness of self-development and enhance its innovation ability in promoting the marine economic development.
