功能翻译论指导下的汉英公示语的翻译

Abstract:The public notice and signs are essential part of a nation’s language environment，while the English versions of them are considered the name-cards making first impression on visitors，providing them important information as well. The translation of public notices and signs belongs to pragmatic translation. The Functionalist Translation Theory which originated from Germany provides feasible guidelines and translating strategies. In order to translate the public notices and signs accurately and acceptably，the translator must study the function，text type and language characters. Borrowing Standard English expressions directly according to the function，Formula translation and opposite translation are suggested to be effective translation methods in this essay.
