西西里阿拉伯语形成及衰亡史论

Abstract:Sicilian Arabic is an Arabic variety formed through a high-degree mixture of Semitic and Romance languages. It was developed during the rule of the Arab Empire and the House of Normandy in Sicily. Although Sicilian Arabic has been extinct，its influence on Maltese and southern Italian dialects continues until today，forming the principal stratum of modern Maltese. The present paper discusses the development and extinction of Sicilian Arabic from the perspectives of history，geography，and social linguistics，focussing on the reconstruction of this language based on existing materials. The final part describes the Arabic feature retained in today’s Sicilian dialect and its connection with modern Maltese.
