Abstract:In the past，the research on the Silk Road in Chinese archaeology was mainly confined to China，but little research on the outside world. Since 2000，the archaeology discipline of Northwest University has taken the archaeological exploration of ancient Yuezhi culture as the breakthrough point，following Zhang Qian’s footprints——from Gansu and Xinjiang in China to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan abroad and from the East Tianshan Mountain to the West Tianshan Mountain，adhering to the combination of large-scale systematic regional investigation and small-scale scientific and accurate excavation，and the combination of archaeological work and cultural heritage protection，adopting the working mode of multi-disciplinary and multi-unit cooperation，thus established the theory and method of nomadic settlement archaeological research，accumulated a large number of first-hand archaeological data，and achieved many staged research achievements，especially in ancient Yuezhi and Kangju archaeological culture research，and obtained the discourse power that cannot be ignored in International Silk Road archaeological research. The Silk Road archaeological work carried out by Northwest University has had a positive impact on the in-depth understanding of the historical and cultural traditions of countries along the Silk Road，promoting mutual understanding between China and other countries，and the realization of people-to-people communication，which has been highly praised by the Party and our national leaders.
