Abstract:Based on census and immigrant statistical data，this study examines the development history of Canada’s immigration policy. This study finds that the immigration policy has often been adjusted periodically due to the debates among governments，academia，and mass media around the impacts of immigration to Canada’s population，economy，culture，and society. In the past few years，Canada’s immigration policy has been tightened significantly to fit with its economic situation. In the future，Canada’s immigration policy will provide more convenience for skilled labor in order to keep its advantage in the global competition for immigrants.
