Abstract:Two provinces of Guangdong and Fujian exported a large number of overseas Chinese to Malaysia. These overseas Chinese have launched a large number of newspapers to disseminate Chinese culture and promote the economic development of overseas Chinese. The history of Chinese press in Malaysia has lasted for more than two centuries since the beginning of 《察世俗每月统记传》. Over the past two centuries, overseas Chinese of Guangdong and Fujian have made great contributions to the modern and local Chinese society, rewriting Chinese history and making outstanding contributions. Following the historical evolution, after the Revolution of 1911,the enthusiasm of the overseas Chinese of Guangdong to run newspapers declined, and they were gradually overtaken by Fujian chinese. Finally,Fujian chinese dominated the development of Chinese newspaper industry in Malaysia, exerting an important influence on the local overseas Chinese society, showing that the social influence and wealth accumulation of the overseas Chinese of Guangdong were stagnant and also shows that the ideological innovation of the overseas Chinese of Guangdong lags behind that of the overseas Chinese of Fujian. This paper divides the history of the overseas Chinese of Guangdong and Fujian in Malaysia into four stages, analyzes the practice of the overseas Chinese of Guangdong and Fujian in running newspapers and their influence on the local overseas Chinese society, and explores the reasons for the distance between their ideological innovation and wealth accumulation.
