Abstract:In 2011 the popular support to the President Jose Mujica declined. The political divergences rose on education reform, public security and relation with Argentina whithin the ruling coalition. The economic growth rate maintained high in the first half of the year and declined slightly in the second half. The macroeconomic policies were aimed at controlling inflation, exchange rate and public debt. The economic growth and the expansion of social expenditure made huge contribution to the decline of the poverty and the rise of employment. The President Mujica made an effort to cooperate with Mercosur and improve Uruguay's relation with Argentina.
