Abstract:In 2011, the political situation in Latin American and the Caribbean maintained stable. The democratic political mechanisms were in normal operation and some regional countries finished successfully important elections or referendum. Democratic systems was further consolidated and the constitutional framework showed some rigidity. Expanding political participations through political reform had become the consensus. At the same time, the new party or coalition of parties exposed the vulnerability reflecting that its cohesion was not strong and its governing foundation was instable. The Chilean right-wing forces emerged to be the forerunner by taking the initiative of carrying out political reforms to expand political participation since the return to democracy. The sixth congress of the Cuban Communist party decided to "update" the socialist economic model, whose success or failure will be related to the future and direction of socialism in Latin America. In 2012, what is worth of attention is the elections in Cuba, Mexico and Venezuela and the political reforms in some regional countries.
