Abstract:Seeking reelection in 2011，President Daniel Ortega strengthened his control over the ruling party and the central and local government. The opposition parties failed to form a coalition due to intense internal differences and lost the momentum to challenge the ruling party. In 2010 Nicaragua attained economic recovery from the international financial crisis which should primarily attribute to increasing overseas demand. It is notable that Nicaragua made a remarkable progress on poverty reduction by implementing the National Human Development Plan （NHDP）. Nicaragua further boosted the relations with Venezuela. A major diplomatic concern in 2010 is that there was a border dispute leading to the deterioration of Nicaragua’s relation with its neighbor Costa Rica.
