Abstract:After the resignation of former President Bouteflika of Algeria，the military took over the government，forming a transitional government and actively preparing for the presidential election. However，the street demonstrators and different political factions have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the process，which has led to two delays in presidential election and collective boycott of the final election. The year-long standoff between the military-led government and the street demonstrators shows that it is a very difficult process to reform Algeria’s political system，and that street demonstrators have become a force for major changes in Algerian society. Through an analysis of the macro-political situation，popular demonstration movement and economic downturn of Algeria in 2019，this article sorts out the situation in Algeria and tentatively projects into its future political situation.
