Abstract:In the general election of May 2019，Laurentino Cortizo，presidential candidate of the Democratic Revolutionary Party won. The new president faces the governing challenges，such as political reforms，economic adjustments and diplomatic diversification. Politically，President Cortizo is committed to increasing governance transparency to fight against corruption and actively promoting constitutional reforms. Economically，the adverse effects of the global economic and trade situation made most economic sectors less dynamic. The new president has made efforts to increase revenue，reduce expenditures，and actively manage fiscal deficits. It brought out social stability. In terms of foreign relations，the new government has adopted a more cautious foreign policy in handling relations with extraregional powers while has actively seeked diversified diplomacy too.
