Abstract:Based on calculations，Social Development Index （SDI） for Anhui Province in 2017 was 0.378，a slight increase over that of 2016，which was 0.37. SDI rankings of cities and regions in Anhui underwent slight changes as compared with 2016. Due to adjustments in calculation weights of SDI，the city of Huangshan has risen to No.1 because of its excellent natural environment. Similarly，the city of Chizhou has also entered Top 5 in 2017 from No.6 in 2016. SDI of other cities and regions and its rankings are basically the same. Generally speaking，SDI of cities and regions in Anhui has manifested a clear feature of hierarchy in 2017，with regions in South Anhui generally scoring higher than those in North Anhui.
