Abstract:During 2018，Latvia enjoyed general stability. Latvian centenary，declassification of the KGB documents，approval of amendments to the presidential election law and the 13th Saeima election were the important events in the political field. In the economic area，the macroeconomic indicators were positive and economy showed strong growth. However，the liquidation of ABLV bank escalated scandals in the financial sector and negative news was frequently heard. Grounded on EU，the Latvian foreign policy also attached importance to Trans-Atlantic and multilateral cooperation. In social and cultural life，Latvia deepened educational reforms in all levels and approved a series of amendments to the educational law. The Song and Dance Festival was held to strengthen national identification and integration. The year of 2018 was designated as the “Year of Honorable Family”，and multi-children families were supported to encourage births.
