Abstract:With the rapid expansion of the influence of English，the status of French in the world has declined relatively. Sub-Saharan Africa is the most important region in French-speaking countries and regions in the world，and the status quo of the French language in this region has become a key point for the future development of French. The present article examines this issue in the context of the dual language system，focusing on the history of French in Africa and its status quo in sub-Saharan Africa. The analysis shows that French is developing in a healthy manner in this part of Africa，and it has a relatively optimistic future，though improvement of French education conditions，acceptance of new French variants，and the presence of digital media pose important challenges.
