Abstract:The higher education system in India is very large，and since 1947，India has promulgated four National Education Policies（NEPs），namely，the National Education Policy 1968，1979，1986 and 2020，all of which are oriented towards the theme of “Quality Improvement” in higher education. In order to achieve this objective，the National Assessment and Accreditation Council（NAAC）was set up in 1994 by the University Grants Commission（UGC）as an autonomous body to assess and accredit higher education and its units，and accordingly，the Internal Quality Assurance Cell（IQAC）was set up to carry out self-reviews of higher education institutions. Following the promulgation of the National Education Policy 2020，the National Accreditation Council（NAC）was established as a “meta-accrediting body”，and in the future，a graded accreditation system will be further developed and standards will be set up to improve the quality and standards of higher education institutions. In the future，evaluation in Indian higher education will focus on the development of refined evaluation，the establishment of multi-tiered accreditation sub-agencies，and the enhancement of information disclosure.
