Abstract:The establishment of the Australia-UK-US AUKUS trilateral security cooperation mechanism was originally established to realize the transfer of highly sensitive nuclear technology，but its ultimate purpose is actually to help the US to check and balance its main adversary in the Indo-Pacific region. The three parties of the United States，Britain and Australia have different motives for establishing this alliance. Australia’s sense of insecurity，the special identity of the United Kingdom and the strategic adjustment of the United States have jointly contributed to the formation of AUKUS，the only new multilateral military alliance after the end of the Cold War. The international community and other international entities in the Indo-Pacific region have complicated reactions to the formation of AUKUS，but in general，the establishment of the alliance has further increased the security risks in the Indo-Pacific region，and may even lead to arms races and nuclear proliferation，which also proves to that the AUKUS is actually a product of Cold War mentality，and may have some negative impacts on countries in the region，including Australia itself.
