Abstract:In modern international relations,people-to-people exchanges, together with political and security cooperation, economic and trade cooperation, constitute the three pillars of the development of China’s foreign policy, which has become the important force for promoting people-to-people connectivity and healthy development of bilateral and multilateral relations. People-to-people connectivity is a stabilizer for China’s relations with countries along the “Belt and Road” and also a lubricant for policy, infrastructure, trade and financial integration among China and BRI countries. Malaysia is an important node country on the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. China and Malaysia enjoy a long history of friendly relations as well as frequent people-to-people exchanges, and have built solid political mutual trust, profound economic ties and broad space for further cooperation. To look ahead in the future,in order to realize the continuous progress of the 21st century Maritime Silk Road in Malaysia,China must think about how to synergize it with Malaysia’s own development policy. In the process of coordinating and implementing this strategic initiative with local governments,people-to-people exchanges,as an important pillar of Belt and Road Initiative, should play a role in enhancing trust and dispelling misgivings,so as to build mutual trust and ultimately build the bond between the peoples of the two countries and form the popular basis for mutual trust and friendship.
