Abstract:China has long-term and good relationship with the Portuguese-speaking countries,who have established diplomatic relations with China in the early 1970s and 1980s. Since the establishment of Permanent Secretariat of Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries(Macao)and of The Belt and Road Initiative,the Portuguese-speaking countries have acted positively,which promoted the increasingly deepening cooperation in various fields,covering economic and trade investment,infrastructure construction,humanity education etc. In terms of social and cultural cooperation,the Confucius Institute has been established in many Portuguese-speaking countries and has become an important window for people of Portuguese-speaking countries to better understand China. At the same time,it has played a positive role in the extensive and in-depth dissemination of Chinese culture. It is considered as a good example of cultural cooperation between the two sides. Up to now,there are 26 Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms in Portuguese-speaking countries and regions,covering Europe,Asia,Africa,and the Americas. The largest number of them is belong to Brazil,which is the most distant South American country from China. Therefore,this article takes Brazil as an example to explore the function of Confucius Institutes in Portuguese-speaking countries in Chinese cultural dissemination. It focuses on the results of Chinese cultural dissemination in 2017-2018. At the same time,it analyzes the existing problems and proposes coping strategies and future development trends,with the objective to better promotes cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries in social culture and other aspects,and thus to make a positive contribution to the development of a multicultural world.
